Instructor Candidate Materials

Each instructor candidate must have the following PADI materials:

You can bring all the above materials with you or they can be obtained here, through Aquanauts at very competitive prices, when you arrive.

Independent Learning Prerequisite

Teach new studentsPrior to the start of an IDC, Assistant Instructor Course or OWSI program, an individual must complete all (16) IDC Knowledge Reviews. These are located in the Instructor Candidate Course Workbook. To complete the Knowledge Reviews the following PADI materials need to be referenced, Instructor Manual, Instructor Candidate Course Workbook, Business of Diving, Law and the Diving Professional, Best of the Undersea Journal. If the Knowledge Reviews have not been completed on arrival, 2-3 days must be set aside for this self-study.

We offer a Pre IDC course of three days, which is designed to refresh candidates, dive theory, pool and rescues skills. The course will cover the five topics that the candidate will be examined on during the IE. Physics, Physiology, The Recreational Dive Planner, Equipment and Skills and the Environment. During the pool sessions we will run through the Skill Circuit and provide advice on any improvement required. A role model demonstration will be given on rescuing an unconscious diver at the surface. There will be plenty of time to practice all of these skills during the IDC but it is a good idea to gain additional practice so that you can be better prepared. If you elect to take this course and if you are unsuccessful at the IE we would pay your next IE fee.

DAN Oxygen Provider & Instructor Course

This is a two-day course, one for the oxygen provider and one for the Instructor, designed by the Divers Alert Network (DAN). The prerequisites are again PADI teaching status Instructors and Assistant Instructors. It allows successful candidates to teach the DAN Oxygen Provider Course.
